Symphoricarpos occidentalis (western snowberry) Community Type

The Symphoricarpos occidentalis (western snowberry) community type occurs throughout the Northern Great Plains in a variety of positions on the landscape. Dense stands tend to shade out all but the most shade-tolerant herbaceous species. This site is along Beauvais Creek west of Saint Xavier, Montana on the Crow Indian Reservation (elevation is approximately 1,121 m; 3,700 ft).
