Northern Great Plains River Ecosystem

A cottonwood gallery forest along the Milk River southeast of Glasgow, Montana (elevation is approximately 621 m; 2,050 ft). The lower banks are lined with Salix exigua (sandbar willow) community type; the upper banks support a Populus deltoides/Cornus stolonifera (Great Plains cottonwood/red-osier dogwood) community type.
