Alnus incana (mountain alder) Community Type

Occupies alluvial terraces, streambanks, floodplains along fast moving (moderate to high gradient) mountain and foothill streams, and near springs and seeps. A diverse undergrowth of both shrub and herbaceous species is typical. This site is characteristic of the Alnus incana (mountain alder) community type found throughout western Montana.
