High Mountain Lake

Typically fringed by the sedges Carex rostrata (beaked sedge) and Carex aquatilis (water sedge) with Nuphar luteum (yellow water-lily) in the deeper waters. Notice the dead conifers which indicate a rising lake level. This site is Medicine Lake southwest of Philipsburg, Montana (elevation is approximately 2,073 m; 6,800 ft).
