Typha latifolia (common cattail) Habitat Type
The Typha latifolia (common cattail) habitat type occupies pond margins, ditches, oxbows, and backwater areas where flow is minimal. Sites are generally classified as "semi permanent wetlands." This type provides excellent nesting cover for a variety of birds. This site is along Spencer Lake, west of Whitefish, Montana (elevation is approximately 945 m; 3,100 ft).
