Beavers perform a vital role in the establishment and maintenance of riparian systems. They dam streams, reducing the rate of water flowing through the system, and allowing more to be held within the floodplain. This site is along Fords Creek east of Lewistown, Montana (elevation is approximately 1,152 m; 3,800 ft).
