Salix exigua (sandbar willow) Community Type

A primary successional stage on a recently deposited alluvial bar. It is currently dominated by small seedlings of Salix exigua (sandbar willow). Limited amounts of Populus deltoides (Great Plains cottonwood), and Salix lutea (yellow willow) may be present. This site is at the confluence of the Judith and Missouri Rivers northwest of Winifred, Montana (elevation is approximately 743 m; 2,450 ft).
