Flood Plain Ice Damage to Cottonwoods

Ice plays a major role in floodplain development. In this photo, the cottonwoods exhibit the impacts of ice on floodplain communities. This site is downstream of the confluence of the Judith and Missouri Rivers northwest of Winifred, Montana (elevation is approximately 727 m; 2,400 ft).
