Fraxinus pennsylvanica/Prunus virginiana (green ash/common chokecherry) Habitat Type

Interior of a severely disturbed stand. Most of the shrubs have been eliminated and replaced by species such as Poa pratensis (Kentucky bluegrass), Bromus japonicus (Japanese brome), widely scattered Artemisia frigida (fringed sagewort) and Symphoricarpos occidentalis (western snowberry). This site is all too typical of woody draws throughout the Northern Great Plains.
