Natural Disturbance - Flash Flood Event

Flood waters from a 30 minute rain event on steep slopes cut a new channel in the floodplain. Notice the buried stems of Salix exigua (sandbar willow) throughout the new channel, indicating this is not an infrequent occurrence on such sites. This site is typical of floodplains within the Northern Great Plains.
