Populus deltoides (Great plains cottonwood)/Recent Alluvial Bar Community Type

A primary successional stage on a recently deposited alluvial bar. It is codominated by seedlings of Populus deltoides (Great Plains cottonwood) and Salix exigua (sandbar willow). Also present may be Salix lutea (yellow willow) seedlings and many herbaceous species. This site is at the confluence of the Judith River and the Missouri River northwest of Winifred, Montana (elevation is approximately 743 m; 2,450 ft).
