Riparian Complex

Illustrates the distinct breaks reflecting hydrologic conditions. At left is a Carex rostrata (beaked sedge) habitat type. At right is a Typha latifolia (common cattail) habitat type. Adjacent to the stream are the tall shrubs of a Salix lutea/Calamagrostis canadensis (yellow willow/bluejoint reedgrass) habitat type. The site is a wetland complex along Little Prickley Pear Creek north of Helena, Montana (elevation is approximately 1,212 m; 4,000 ft).
